I just updated my MacBook to the latest Leopard update – 10.5.8. Everything appeared to run smoothly apart from the fact that, upon reboot, my desktop image of the past few years had been spontaneously replaced with the default. I tried to change it back to no avail – the image didn’t appear under the Pictures folder in the “Desktop & Screensaver” pane in System Prefs. Images from iPhoto albums also wouldn’t show up.

It seems that a bug has been introduced in this update. My fix was to locate the image in the Finder – it was in a subfolder of Pictures. I copied it into the root of Pictures and then it appeared in the “Desktop & Screensaver” pane and became available again. I selected it and everything seems to be hunky-dory.

It appears that subfolders of Pictures aren’t been read by the selector widget in “Desktop & Screensaver”. It will remain to be seen if this is a bug or a deliberate change. Anybody having any other interesting issues with the update?

I’m writing my first blog post on my new MacBook! It was delivered the other day and I’ve been spending some time adjusting to the Apple way of doing things. Pictures will follow shortly as soon as the initial excitement subsides and I get a chance to take them!

First impressions? Fantastic!!
